What's My Motivation!

4-20-2009. . . .What's My Motivation!

No one likes or wants to feel unappreciated for work done or service rendered. We would like to feel that all the time, effort and extra care we put in is valued and at the very least, acknowledged if not appreciated. What happens when it’s not! Upon whose shoulders does the burden of responsibility for the offense fall. . . .the person being served or the person serving? Initially, it would seem the person being served would bare the burden of full responsibility for demonstrating insensitivity, and ungratefulness. However, when we consider the ‘motivation’ factor, in most cases, the server must shoulder some responsibility as well. Work hard and cheerfully at all you do, just as though you were working for the Lord and not merely for your masters, remembering that it is the Lord Christ who is going to pay you, giving you your full portion of all he owns. He is the one you are really working for. And if you don't do your best for him, he will pay you in a way that you won't like-for he has no special favorites who can get away with shirking. (Col 3:23-25 TLB) Whether it is on our jobs, in our relationships, in our churches or where ever we are called upon to serve, consider your motivation for doing what you do. If our motivation is to receive thanks, attention or affirmation from men, in many cases we will be disappointed. Am I suggesting then, that we avail ourselves to be proverbial “doormats”. . . . not in the least. Simply, always consider the greater good. It is God who has positioned us to do what we do. Let pleasing Him be our sole motivation! From Him will come our rich reward!

Prayer: Lord, may everything I do this week be pleasing to you. Position me to be a blessing to those I serve and keep my motivation pure. Amen!

Col 3:22-25. . . . Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God: And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men; Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. But he that doeth wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons. KJV
