5-15-2009. . . . What A Benefit!
The Apostle Paul in Ephesians chapter one outlines beautifully the benefits believers have in Christ. Among the greatest of these benefits is the ‘forgiveness of sin.’ This benefit of course was made possible through the sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross. God took our sin and laid it all on Him. “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”( 2 Cor 5:21) KJV Hallelujah! So now, in the evolutionary process of all things becoming new, should we sin, we can turn to God and receive forgiveness. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”( 1 John 1:9 KJV) Since we have the assurance of forgiveness if we should sin, should we not worry about sinning? Marvin Winans put it this way in a song, “Its good to know He’ll be there if ever I fall, but it’s better to know that I don’t have to fall at all!” “My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (1 John 2:1-2 KJV) What a great benefit!
Prayer: Lord I thank you for the benefit of forgiveness! May I live in such way as to need less and less of it and ultimately, none of it. Amen!
1 John 1:4-7. . . . And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. KJV
