The Measure of Love!

5-20-2009. . . . The Measure of Love!

What is the measure of love? Can it be measured in inches, yards or feet? If it were a liquid, could it be measured in pints, quarts or gallons? Perhaps it can be weighted in ounces, pounds or tons. No, none of these is sufficient to measure love. Love is more than mere words effortlessly uttered from our lips. The real measure of love is in what it does. Love is what love does! “Love is very patient and kind, never jealous or envious, never boastful or proud, never haughty or selfish or rude. Love does not demand its own way. It is not irritable or touchy. It does not hold grudges and will hardly even notice when others do it wrong. It is never glad about injustice, but rejoices whenever truth wins out. If you love someone, you will be loyal to him no matter what the cost. You will always believe in him, always expect the best of him, and always stand your ground in defending him. All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever.” (1 Cor 13:4-8 TLB) What is the measure of your love? Is it in what you say, or in what you do? You be the judge.

Prayer: Lord, thank you for loving me through your actions. Being made in your image and after your likeness, may my love resemble yours in every way. Amen!

1 John 3:17-20. . . . Little children, let us stop just saying we love people; let us really love them, and show it by our actions. Then we will know for sure, by our actions, that we are on God's side, and our consciences will be clear, even when we stand before the Lord. But if we have bad consciences and feel that we have done wrong, the Lord will surely feel it even more, for he knows everything we do. TLB

  1. I Cor. 13 has also been on my heart. My former pastor from Friendship keeps coming to me with it.
